Ferrari Scuderia Spider revealed

The car's full name is Scuderia Spider 16M. If you are wondering what that funny number is at the end, well it relates to that fact Ferrari has just won its 16th Formula 1 constructors championship. Well done them. Shame their driver didn't win though

"Only 499 will be made"

Only 499 Scuderia Spiders will be made. They will be priced around £182,000 which is about ten grand more than the coupé. According to Ferrari the car has been designed for “the most passionate clients, drivers who demand both exclusivity and superb driving pleasure.” Basically that means unless you have bought quite a few Fezzas before you won’t be allowed to have one.

Power comes from the same 510bhp V8 as the hard topped F430 Scuderia. There’s a see-through window over the engine bay so you can marvel at its beauty.

Due to extra strengthening of the chassis required to make up for the lack of a roof, the Scuderia Spider is 90kg heavier at 1350kg. Don’t moan though. This is still 80kg less than the standard F430 Spider.

We should probably point out the Scuderia Spider isn’t quite as fast as the hard top. It can sprint from 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 196mph. The same figures for the normal F430 Scuderia are 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds and a 199mph top speed. Really you’d be hard pushed to tell the difference.

And to stop you getting things badly wrong the Scuderia Spider comes with massive carbon ceramic brakes and a clever traction control system. A dial on the steering wheel allows you to choose between five different settings from total chicken to totally off.
