Geneva 2009: Hyundai ix-onic concept

Hyundai has revealed the ix-onic, a stylish concept designed to whet our appetites for a replacement for the drab Tucson SUV

These are the first official pictures of the Hyundai ix-onic concept which hints strongly at the replacement for the Tucson SUV, due later this year.

The concept was created by the company’s design team in Rüsselsheim, Germany and sits on the company’s C-segment platform used by the i30 hatchback and the Kia’s cee’d.

The ix-onic has pretty compact dimensions – it’s 4,400mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,650mm high – and can seat five adults comfortably.

And that bodes well for the Tucson replacement, which will be called the ix-35 and will be launched at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

It'll be powered by a new 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine with 175hp (soon to feature in other models) and, in time, a 2.0-litre diesel with 184hp. We think it looks rather tasty.
