Facelifted Mercedes B-Class revealed in Paris

Mercedes' mini-MPV gets new engines and technology for 2015

The Mercedes B-Class has been given a facelift, as the German manufacturer revamps its range for 2015. The car, which was on display at the Paris Motor Show, includes subtle styling tweaks, an updated interior and a new range of engines.

The MPV doesn’t look significantly different to the outgoing model, but study it closely enough and you’ll spot a new front bumper and grille, integrated daytime running lights in the headlamps and a modified rear bumper.

The interior has also been updated, with a larger screen for the infotainment system, updated dial layout and a choice of 12 ambient interior lighting colours.

A new safety system will be available to B-Class owners, with a system called Collision Prevention Assist Plus adding automatic partial braking to the existing safety package to help reduce the risk of rear-end collisions. The Attention Assist safety system on the current model has also been upgraded to work in a wider speed range (37mph-124mph), and is predominantly used to detect drowsiness in the driver.

B-Class buyers will be able to choose from four diesel engines, four petrol engines and a fully electric version. The most economical conventional model will be the B180 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY diesel, which should be capable of 78.5mpg economy and CO2 emissions of 94g/km for free road tax.

Mercedes is taking orders for the new B-Class from today, with first deliveries scheduled for November. Prices start at £22,575 for the B180 1.6-litre petrol model with a manual gearbox.
