Land Rover Discovery Sport prices and specs

2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport gets tracking gadgets for wallets and handbags and a new infotainment system

The new Land Rover Discovery Sport is now available, boasting a raft of improvements over the previous model. Prices start from £31,095.

Most of the updates focus on in-car technology, with a new and improved infotainment system. Called InControl Touch Pro, it’s based around a hi-res 10.2-inch touchscreen with menus designed to replicate a smartphone’s, so you can swipe and pinch to navigate.

It’s delivered through a 60GB solid-state hard drive, which is around 100% faster than a regular hard drive, and also works off Intel quad-core processors.

The 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport also features ‘Tile Bluetooth’ tracking technology. The system tracks tiny Tile tags that can be attached to your house keys, wallet, handbag or other items, and will warn you if they’re not in the car when you set off. This is designed to make leaving personal effects behind by accident a thing of the past.

The app, which is operated using the InControl infotainment screen, can also tell you the last known position of the tag and can activate a 90dB alarm to help you quickly find the item.

Peter Virk, Jaguar Land Rover’s connectivity boss said: “Losing your wallet or leaving your child’s sports kit behind isn’t just an inconvenience. The realisation you’ve mislaid something important can be a cause of distraction.

“Our unique partnership with Tile means customers can check the status of tagged items using the Discovery Sport’s touchscreen, so forgotten items will be a thing of the past.”

MY2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport Graphite Pack and paint colours

The latest Discovery Sport is also available with a Graphite Pack, which provides some attractive styling tweaks. The pack, which is priced at £1,555, is available on the SE and SE Tech versions of the car.

The Graphite Pack includes 19-inch ‘Style 521’ alloy wheels in a dark grey finish, a Corris Grey contrast roof, mirror caps painted in Narvik Black and a grille, bumper vents and Discovery badging finished in Dark Atlas grey paint.

Land Rover’s design boss Gerry McGovern said: “Our customers want their vehicles to stand out and expect a wide range of personalisation options. With its polished finishes, the additional Graphite Pack gives our compact SUV a uniquely distinctive appearance”.

The new 2017 Discovery Sport is also available in four new body colours: Silicon Silver, Farallon Black, Carpathian Grey and Aruba metallic finishes, taking the number of paint options to 16.

New safety systems

The 2017 Discovery Sport also has three new safety systems available.

The Intelligent Speed Limiter helps you keep to the speed limit by using traffic-sign recognition technology to detect changes in the limit. When it changes, you’re prompted to accept the new maximum speed and the car will automatically slow down to the legal speed.

The other new features are bundled into a single £1,220 option and only available on Discovery Sports with an automatic gearbox. The lane-keeping assistance uses cameras to detect lane markings and can counter-steer should you begin to veer outside them. The driver condition monitor analyses the way the car is being driven and can alert you if it detects signs of fatigue.
