London to Timbuktu Skycar flying car expedition
A production version may be on the way...
Yes you read that correctly, a team of Brit adventurers are actually going to drive/fly from London to Timbuktu in a flying car. Check out the video of its first test flight
The Skycar is based on a Rage buggy, so on the ground it’s bloody quick. It gets from 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and goes onto a top speed of around 110mph.
To make the car airborne it uses parajet technology that took 18 months to develop, and is basically an aerofoil-type wing with a big propeller on the back that can be switched to take power in place of the wheels.
To take off, the car just needs to get up to 45mph (not 88mph…) to achieve enough lift. Once it up there it has a range of around 160 miles and has a cruising altitude of 2000-3000ft with a maximum altitude of 15,000ft.
Neil Laughton will head from central London on the 14th January and start his expedition to Timbuktu. Although he has been allowed to fly the car elsewhere, the team have been unable to get access from authorities to fly across the English Channel, so on to the ferry it is then…
We wish them all the best of luck and for more info on the expedition check out http://www.skycarexpedition.com
