If Shrek drove a car, the Gumpert Apollo Speed would suit him down to the ground-effects diffuser
Geneva 2009: Gumpert Apollo Speed
This is the Gumpert Apollo Speed. It may not be the most aesthetically pleasing car shown at the Geneva show, but it’s certainly one of the fastest
OK, the Gumpert Apollo Speed is unlikely to win the award for the best looking model shown at the Geneva motor show - for our nominees, just follow this link. In fact it’s pretty much the automotive equivalent of a big, ugly ogre. But at least the Apollo certainly has the speed to make a big impression.
The Speed is the latest version of the Gumpert Apollo, the Audi-engined supercar which is the brainchild of ex-Audi Motorsport boss Roland Gumpert.
In this crazy two-tone version, the Apollo has been lowered a whole nine millimetres, and gets new streamlined body panels, new taillights, and special aerodynamic wheel covers.
Powering the speed is a choice of 650hp, 700hp and 800hp versions of the 4.2-litre Audi-sourced twin-turbo V8. The top spec car, which is obviously the one you want, can manage 0-62mph in 3.0seconds, and top speed is “over 224mph.”
But despite the loony performance figures, the Apollo Speed stoll gets an Alcantara interior, air con and a DVD player, so you can watch Shrek while spearing down the Autobahn at top speed. Super.
