Stunning BMW Lovos Concept
Words: George Chapman
Design student Anne Forschner aims to challenge us all with her hedgehog-esque BMW Lovos Concept, the result of combining Philosophy with car design.
The Lovos Concept is the brainchild of Pforzheim University student Anne Forschner, who in collaboration with BMW, has designed this wonderfully refreshing electric concept.

The body of Lovos, which loosely translates as ‘Lifestyle of Voluntary Simplicity - a lifestyle of conscious simplicity’, consists of 260 identical scale-like panels that actively reposition in order to act as solar panels or air brakes.
The wheels are also covered in 12 responsive turbine blades that react to braking or movement further manipulating drag to improve efficiency.
Further challenging automotive production methods, Lovos questions how many elements we currently use to create vehicle exteriors and what a car would look like if we simply used one repeating element.
We think the clearly electric powered Lovos looks sensational, although under heavy braking, spikes deployed, this exciting concept may not be very pedestrian impact friendly!
Anne, aged 24, has also previously worked at Mercedes and Mazda studios, whilst studying for her second bachelor’s degree.
Linking design with a philosophical idea is fresh thinking from the double qualified student. Apart from addressing the need for more efficient vehicle design, she has made a statement in the way we look at the car, questioning the existing system and encouraging the viewer to “Escape from the embrace of a pleasant conformism.”
Philosophy and car design resembling a frightened porcupine. Who would have thought?
