Motor Codes servicing guidelines backed by UK government

Government has given further backing to the garage rating system Motor Codes.

With more than 7,000 members already signed up to the current system, which helps protect motorists and make sure work is up to standard, the government has called for wider adoption of the scheme.

Motor Codes Managing Director, Chris Mason, said: “It’s hugely positive news for consumers that government has today recommended wider adoption of OFT/TSI-backed codes of practice and stated that it should be the norm for garages to sign up to them.”

The code commits any garage that signs up to give an honest, fair, open and transparent service, invoices that match quoted prices, and a straightforward and swift complaints procedure.

Garages that can sign up to the scheme include service and repair centres, and MoT testing stations. The service also provides customers with a free helpline and online garage finder tool with real-time ratings.
