Kia has confirmed new performance-focused variants of the five-door cee’d and three-door pro_cee’d models.

Kia has confirmed new performance-focused versions of the five-door cee’d and three-door pro_cee’d models. Both cars will wear the GT badge and go on sale midway through 2013.

The two new GT models are powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine which produces 201bhp. A six-speed manual gearbox is fitted as standard, and both cars can accelerate from 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds.

Kia has made some changes to the suspension to ensure the GT cee’d models are sharper handling than the standard cars, too.

Kia has only released sketches of the models so far, but promises that the cee’d and pro_cee’d GT will get new grilles and headlamps, unique 18-inch wheels, red brake calipers and a circle of LEDs on each side of the front bumper. Inside, Recaro sports seats and more luxurious materials are on offer.

Production of the pro_cee’d GT and cee’d GT is set to begin in May 2013, with the cars going on sale in the middle of the year.
