The Alfa Giulietta is slightly longer than many of its class rivals, at 4.4 metres. Cars such as the Mercedes A Class, BMW 1 Series and SEAT Leon come in at 4.3 metres. This makes parking the Giulietta a little trickier, especially since rear visibility isn’t too good. At least rear parking sensors are now fitted as standard to help with this.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta interior space & storage

You may have trouble getting comfortable behind the wheel of the Giulietta, as the cramped pedal box can leave your feet feeling squeezed and if you move the driver’s seat as high as it'll go, your head could be brushing the roof.

Access to the rear is good, because the Giulietta is available only as a five-door hatchback, but limited headroom means the back seats feel cramped and legroom is also tight. If you choose the entry-level trim, the passenger seat isn’t height-adjustable.

There are storage areas dotted around the cabin, but the central armrest cubby and door bins are just too small. The glovebox has the worst of both worlds – it doesn’t offer much in the way of capacity but has a large lid that, when opened outwards, gets in the way of the front-seat passenger.

Boot space

The Alfa’s 350-litre boot is a reasonable size – but it’s smaller than both the Ford Focus' (375 litres) and the Volkswagen Golf's (380 litres). When you put the 60:40 split-folding rear seats down, that space expands to 1,045 litres. A large boot lip means loading and unloading stuff is more difficult than it should be. A steel space-saver spare wheel comes as standard on all trims.

Towing

The Giulietta can be used for towing a braked trailer or caravan weighing up to 1,300kg, regardless of which engine you choose.
