BMW 4 Series convertible owner reviews

“The BMW 4 Series Convertible is nearly as practical as the coupe on which it's based, yet provides the bonus of wind-in-the-hair thrills”

I bought this car second hand from a BMW dealer with only 1,500 miles on the clock and 9 months old to replace a 320d convertible I'd owned for nearly 5 years. On a mixture of commuting 12 miles to & from work and motorway driving I'm getting around 40mpg which is about 5 mpg less than the 2 litre diesel I had owned before which is to be expected given the performance difference between the two cars, especially bearing in mind that the last car was a manual. The car has adaptive suspension and is an absolute dream to drive and the stop start system works perfectly. I'd wanted an MX5 but being over 6ft 6in, the Mazda is too small and the BMW is perfect. The car has the load through option so is quite practical and goes like the wind (within official limits) when the loud pedal is depressed. Never fails to put a smile on my face.

Beautiful car. Insane driving experience. Top comes down with a button. Can't beat the hardtop. Not your father's Beemer.

I bought this car - my first BMW after a long time with Jaguar - as a pre-reg with just 15 miles on the clock. I had a generally poor time in finding the right car with respect to BMW dealers - much worse in my experience than those of Jaguar. For this particular car, after purchase the paint fell away from the brake hubs and the calipers started corroding almost straight away. Now the trim panel where the roof sits is starting to 'bloom' from inside. Both of these dreadful product quality problems have been met with total indifference from dealers, and BMW UK. The attitude I am left with is 'if you feel the car isn't of premium quality, tough luck - we have your money, so clear off'. Jaguar would have been on these problems straightaway, and had them fixed. Make no mistake, underneath the premium BMW badge is a product with very low build quality. I bought this car purely for the roof down experience, which is indeed great. Other than that, to drive the ride is adjustable from hard to filling-loosening, and the noise from the run-flat tyres will cause your ears to hum long after a long drive has finished. Both of these, incidentally, are comments on a car that is only a 'Sport' (as opposed to an M-Sport Plus) and has the minimum size 18" wheels.

Bought this ex-demo nearly-new M-Sport with all the add-ons. All very impressive and hi-tech, especially adaptive headlights. Car is good to drive over long or short trips and retractable tin-top is fun in the sun as well as quite and relaxing as any saloon in winter. Slightly detached feel when pushing along country lanes and you can feel its weight in corners. A great car to own until the potential college runs start to kick-in for teenage children.
