Very impressed with sleek interior design, much better than the bland VW console. Good MPG, have achieved 60+mpg regularly on long motorway trips. Good driving position and reasonably smooth ride. Bluetooth has issues with basic model Android phones but not with the iPhone. Main gripe is the clutch, 36k on the clock and the clutch has been replaced twice and I have also had a new flywheel. The clutch grinds when changing gear and even though the new clutch has only done 2,000 miles, it is already very heavy and difficult to shift. Another issue is the sticking boot which can cause central locking problems. Unfortunately, due to these issues, I cannot recommend the car at the moment. Hope Hyundai sort these design flaws as it would be a very good car without them!

Although I have only had the I40 a short time it has proven to be a fantastic car! Hyundai have came on so much over the years and if I am honest other manufactures could learn alot from Hyundai. The ride is smooth with little road noise, this makes the car very cumfortable. The boot is huge and is more that big enough to fit all of my gear in. I went for the mid range spec as this offers the likes of sat nav with full post code entry, dual zone climate control, cruise control with speed limiter, electrical drivers seat, parking sensors front and rear, reverse parking camera, automatic wipers and lights along with stop start technology and a auto defog system. I would recomend this car to anyone as it is cheap to run, cheap to tax (£30 a year!!) and cheap to insure. Alround a fantastic car

My off peak motorway commute into London has become cheaper and quieter since I bought my ex-demo i40. The spacious, well designed cabin has so much kit as standard and I smile every day at how much car this is for so little, and how little such a big car costs to run.... 750 miles between fill ups and £0 road tax in its 1st year (just £30 next year) The 136bhp diesel delivers strong acceleration but needs help with a shift down if it's asked to do very much below 1500rpm. Looks are subjective, but I think the LED daytime running lights and body-line curves set this car apart from its 'eurobox' contenders and the build quality is better than many - the Koreans have learned a lot recently and put this knowledge into good effect with the i40.

When I was required to drive from London to Manchester for a week long business trip I decided to rent a car for the trip. The Hire Company gave me a i40 which had only 240 miles on the clock. Initially I felt a little let down, how could they give me a Hyundai! But after looking over the car I was pleasantly surprised by the styling. While from the back it does look a little odd, it's without a shadow of a doubt a brilliant looking car from the front. The day running lights are also a very nice feature. The interior was also very surprising, a lot more stylish than I had expected with a nice 'flow' particularly in comparison to other interiors. Everything was in reach and there were lots of cubby holes to put things in. Not once in the 8 hours I spent in this car traveling up and down England was I ever uncomfortable. The cruise control, sat-nav, iPod connectivity were all great. The only real complaint I had about the interior was the clunky sat-nav/computer menus which required a bit more working out for basic functions such as turning on my iPhone's shuffle for the music. The contacts menu on the phone settings appeared to have problems recalling multiple numbers from specific contacts. While these are not really huge complaints they do require a bit more attention from say the important task of driving than I would have liked. The engine itself was nice and responsive at low RPM but ran out of puff at higher revs. The auto gearbox was nice and smooth while driving around town and I hardly noticed the gear changes. The kick down response when going for full acceleration was a bit delayed, but otherwise a very civil car to drive. What also impressed me was the fantastic fuel efficiency of this engine, cruise control on at 70mph on a motorway I managed to get over 50mpg. I filled the car up from near empty, around 55l, did around 450 miles and still had an estimated 240 miles left in the tank. When driving it's a nice comfortable smooth ride. The sound system is a little lacklustre despite boasting a subwoofer. However engine noise is barely audible and road noise is pretty quiet. Only real criticism is that I found visability in the blind spot to be very restrictive. Otherwise, I was so impressed with the i40 on my trip, I've bought an i30 from my local dealer, I hope it lives up to the same expectations.

This is the most problematic car I've ever owned - warranty claims have been honored which is good. However in the 2 years I have owned the thing it has spent nearly 3 months at the dealers including a full engine replacement. Dealer support is good, car is nice to drive, however the component quality is questionable at best. The other point is replacement parts seem to take a long time to get to the dealers so if anything needs replacing you tend to be faced with a minimum 2 week wait.

Really enjoyed running this car but since purchase it has given me problems with sticky gear shift. Dealer has tried to rectify the problem and no issues with supplying me with courtesy car. However, apparently it needs new clutch assembly at 20,000 miles. Apart from that, I have enjoyed having this car and have had many complimentary comments from friends about its looks. Decided to trade it in for ix35 for practical purposes.
