Looks great, head turner. Ok it's not a Caterham but as an every practical sports tourer it's fab. All round performance is excellent, economical, fast (torque is immense).

Has some good points (relatively nippy, roomy boot for a two seater, plenty of adjustment for driving position) but these are outweighed by the average or poor. Diesel is old school rattlly; very gruff and not particularly economical. The seats are an odd shape and no matter how you adjust the rake of the seat the built in headrest is miles away from your head; they are uncomfortable after a few hours. The spec is odd; the omission of folding mirrors and rear parking sensors when they are available on much cheaper cars in the Mercedes range is an omission too far in my opinion. However, all that pales into insignificance when measured against the issues with the roof. It was never right from day one. Basically the roof/boot space divider (needs to be locked to lower the roof) is very insecure; the latches do not seat in the catch very well at all. This caused the roof to jam on several occasions (when both in the open and closed positions) that requires the bootlid to be manually opened and physically wrestling with the divider in order to lock it into place for the sensors to allow the roof to work. The response from the dealer; "They all do that sir...." The roof then catastrophically failed in August 2014 (half open), that required the car to be recovered. "Fixed" by the dealer and failed again two weeks later. Cue a 19 week wait for a part that was on order from the factory. No apology from the dealer, no response at all to a letter from head office, and a quite frankly derisory 250 voucher by way of compensation from MB customer services. By far the most unreliable new car I have ever had the misfortune to have. Avoid like the plague unless you want a convertible that can only be driven as a hard top because the roof never functions!

I was shocked to see that Slk made into least depreciating cars list. Had mine from new - done 22k miles, mint condition in and out - bought it for just over £36k and a year down the lane Mercedes evaluated it's worth at £17500. That's 52% depreciation. During the first year it went back twice for warranty repair and had a recall notice from DVLA.

I think the SLK is a very good looking car. The car's road handling is average, but there's plenty of power on the motorway compared to the standard family car. The BlueEfficiency system is clumsy, MPG is high and I'm finding the paintwork is very prone to stone chips.
