MG

MG

MG is the famous British sporting brand reborn under Chinese owners SAIC. The sole car right now is the agile MG6 hatchback that sits just above a Focus in size, but a saloon is planned for later this year and a supermini is due in 2012.

MG 6

The first product of Chinese-owned MG, the MG6 hatchback has a huge boot and a surprisingly involving driving experience. Given the competitive price, it's certainly not disappointing when it comes to the handling, but it falls short of rivals in key areas, including interior quality and fuel economy. The latter is down to the fact that there is only one engine available at the moment, a turbocharged 1.8-litre petrol. It boasts plenty of performance, but the MG6 really needs a diesel, which is unlikely to be available before the third quarter of 2012.

MG TF

Only available in very limited numbers, the MG TF is hardly the newest kid on the block when it comes to cabriolets. Launched way back in 1995, when it was badged MG F, it remains largely unchanged - despite coming up for 20 years old! However it has an extremely loyal customer base who all love the timeless good looks and sporty two-seat driving position. The mid-engined layout makes this car feel very responsive on winding roads, and with the roof down on a summer's day there are few other cars that deliver this car's simple formula for driving enjoyment.
