MINI hatchback reliability
The MINI hatchback was given a reasonable ranking in our 2023 Driver Power owner satisfaction survey of cars currently on sale in the UK. Overall, it placed 24th out of the top 75 cars listed; with very strong scores for reliability and build quality, its exterior design, engines and handling, while practicality and running costs were two areas that let the car down somewhat. The MINI brand as a whole finished in 15th place on our list of 32 manufacturers.
Safety
The MINI Hatch received four out of five stars when it was crash-tested by Euro NCAP. Despite missing out on a perfect score, it is stronger than the car it replaced and features a bonnet that pops up to help protect pedestrians. Adult protection was rated at 79%, child protection at 73% and pedestrian protection at 66%, with a 56% score for safety assist.
In terms of safety equipment, the MINI Hatch boasts six airbags, ISOFIX child-seat mounts front and rear, a passenger airbag deactivation switch, a tyre-pressure-monitoring system and various electronic systems to improve stability and grip.
All MINIs come as standard with MINI Teleservices and MINI eCall, which monitor the car's state and can alert the emergency services if the car is involved in an accident.
