Ours is a family car used as workhorse for kids and dogs, we chose this model due to the lease price and claimed fuel consumption along with its seven seats. It falls far short of the claimed fuel economy figureand the throttle can feel as if it is not directly connected to engine giving all or nothing feel to power delivery. Three wheels had to be replaced after the first winter due to corrosion (we had no hassle with warranty on this). I have had issues with quality of service as engine was over-filled with oil, and when they replaced the three corroded wheels they left the worst one on and changed a good one! The quality of interior is poor, the car looked secondhand after the first good clean and just keeps getting worse, paint doesn't have a good shine, looks thin and flimsy. The car is generally good to drive, especially when loaded and warmed up on bumpy back roads and at high speeds on motorways and has plenty of power, but can be a bit harsh on bumpy town roads when cold and with less load (really annoying). Bluetooth connection to phone is hopeless with voice command not recognizing names (I fitted a Parrot kit in the end). This all sounds like I don't think it's a good car, but actually we really like it for it's seating arrangement, good power and especially it's ride quality and handling when loaded and driven on bad country roads. And I'm comparing the quality of finish against an old Mercedes we had for years and would say it feels the same as a Mark 4 Golf or Renault Grand Scenic. The worst thing is the poor fuel consumption compared to the claimed. Don't get me wrong I didn't expect to be able to get the 58mpg claimed on a run but I would have expected it to achieve 50mpg given a decent steady run. Instead, I'm lucky if I get 40mpg and I can get close to that with a V8 3.5 petrol Jaguar. However, I still think for the money it's the best 7 seater 4x4 on offer.

Terrible car, avoid like the plague. OK, we are a high mileage user (106,000 in 4 1/2 years) but in that time we have had to pay out well over £4,000 so far in repairs - and tonight the turbo has blown, incurring further costs. Original problem was that a tooth on the balancer shaft broke - Mitsubishi were not interested as car was outside warranty and had been serviced by a non-main dealer. It rattles and smokes and regularly stinks of diesel inside the car. The Sat nav system is pathetic, hopelessly out of date and not possible to update maps.

We drive locally most of the time with maybe 20 journeys a year of between 60-120 miles. So the hybrid gives us a good balance of fuel options, performance and economy. The boot capacity easily caters for two sets of golf clubs and trollies; small items of furniture; garden waste or suitcases for 4 adults on an airport run. It has plenty of acceleration when needed and a comfortable ride when cruising on motorways.
What's the one thing you like most about your car?
The driver's seating position enables me to sit comfortably with good headroom so that my back doesn't ache after driving long distances.
If you could improve one thing, what would it be?
The paint is easily chipped. Not majorly, but small annoying little flying stone chips on the front elevation.

Major engine fault on balancing shaft, which cost £3000 and now its back again for repairs even though it was replaced 6 months ago. Known fault in them.

Mitsubishi have said that the Outlander GX4 diesel is a direct alternative to the Discovery Sport HSE. I own an new Outlander GX4, my wife owns a new Discovery Sport HSE so I'm in a good position to compare the two. We travel a lot between Devon and the Lake District and we have to carry a lot of stuff, without doubt the Outlander is the best vehicle between the two to do this with, it has a larger boot in which you can stash the cover under the floor out of the way when you load it up (the Discovery Sport ’s just gets in the way making loading the boot right up difficult). It is more economical giving on average 43mpg compared to the Discovery Sport's new 2.0lL diesel engine which gives on average 38mpg (don't believe Land Rover's claim of over 50mpg). On the motorway the Outlander is just as comfortable and quite as the Discovery Sport, yes the Disco is slightly better on windy roads but you have to drive like a F1 driver to notice this. One other key factor for us is that the visibility out the front of the Outlander is much better than the Disco Sport, because you can see where the bonnet ends, the Land Rover's just falls away from sight from the drivers seat which makes it a bit more awkward to judge very narrow lanes where you have to get tight over to pass other vehicles. In short the Outlander is just as good and in some respects better than the Disco, and a lot cheaper!

Very flexible, practical car. Had for 3 years with nothing to do to it other than change the front tyres at 20k mls. Liked it so much I have just replaced it with the facelifted model. Looked at others, but none had the practicality of the Outlander.

I always loved the previous model, which was so practical, but this later model takes it to a higher level and drives so much better. More refined and smoother as it uses Mitsubishi's own engine rather than the more workhorse old VW unit. Interior is good quality and the uncompromising seven seat option is so handy. The car is a joy to drive and comfortable. Would highly recommend.

lovely car ,however they have a fault with the crankshaft seal splitting and spraying oil over the clutch and flywheel. resulting in a slipping clutch .cost £1200.00 +to replace dual mass flywheel and clutch, this is a common fault so be warned.go through brakes every year on front

Although my rating is 4 stars only, I find driving this machine a true joy. Why the paddles for "sporty drive"? I do not understand it, it's a heavy 4x4 car, not a Ferrari. Doing 60-80mph got 43.8mpg, not bad for an automatic 2.2 4x4 diesel. And the reason for the 4 stars only? The RADIO is not digital, uhggg.

Very reliable, economical and practical car. Handled brilliantly when recently braking hard and swerving to avoid a large deer that ran out in front of me. Seven seats and large boot space make it a good family car. Reversing Camera and large wing mirrors make parking easy.

Good all round SUV with tons of space. Plenty of cargo area or 2 additional seats when required. Auto is smooth and easy to use. Handling is good for big car. Optional ECO 4WD / 4WD Auto / 4WD lock is clever system.

I purchased this vehicle for my mum and dad, both of which love it and wouldn't consider anything else. It’s a comfortable ride, handles brilliant and looks lovely. I have a Mitsubishi ASX and as much I love my car, I must admit the Outlander is fabulous. I can honestly say there is nothing I would change of this vehicle. Love it, Love it Love it!!

Car is great - spacious and good on juice. Rearmost seats only for kids. Stereo and Bluetooth a joke. Garage people good but Mitsubishi 8-year warranty not worth paper its written on. Mitsubishi themselves refuse to fix for dealer or me (owner).

Was looking round for a SUV and narrowed it down to the Outlander or a Honda CR-V. I decided on the Outlander for the extra size and better economy. I really loved it, but overtime I have become a bit disappointed, mainly with the quality of materials. I have owned a few cars over my many years, quite a few older cars but none shows the wear and tear as much as the outlander. The car is only 5 months old, done 3600 miles and the carpet is worn where the pedals are. The internal drivers door panel pops out when you put the window down, the side panels in the boot area are such poor quality that if you knock then they scratch and the panel that hides the luggage shelf pops out easily. Fuel economy is far from the book figure with only 35mpg to 40mpg on the motorway. The only way to get 40mpg is to drive at 55mph continuously, hoping that there are no other cars slowing you down and no hills.

So far so good with this excellent car. Ignore what the reviewers tell you as they have probably been told to slate this vehicle. It's a refined well made good value vehicle with reliability to boot. The diesel is all their own work instead of using units from VW and PSA in the past. It does what it says on the tin. The mpg figures which they claim are true and in some instances I have beaten. The build quality has taken a huge leap from the previous Outlander and the service which I had so far from the dealership in Crewe has been excellent. The Germans can't beat the Japanese for reliability and of which their vehicles are sold at a higher price because of reputation. I was after a car which others don't own because they have their brains washed from motoring journalists who talk tosh and who want to follow the heard and also who are given scripts to spread propaganda. Mitsubishi are renowned for their AWC system and it is no different on this. Buy with confidence if you want to own a Outlander

Bought this car due to having 3 kids and going camping. Negatives- very poor fuel economy and dated interior. Very heavy front tyre wear too. Positives - roomy sturdy solid. Not let me down to date.

For a 4x4 with a 2.2-litre diesel, I find this has very respectable mpg from lots of driving on winding country roads and pretty rugged areas - I would still get 36-37 mpg easy enough. Only problem is carpet in the front by the pedals wore out at 4,000 miles (in fact earlier), but it's nothing that can't be sorted by some sturdy mats.

The car has now done 3600 miles from new. I'm very pleased with its overtaking ability: road test figures suggest it's very slow, but in practice it seems more than adequately lively. I really appreciate the paddle shift too. The 4-wheel drive system is great with a couple of more serious off-road options. But the biggest surprise for me is this car's refinement. Road testers must have been driving a different car from me: what vibration/what diesel clatter? There can be some road noise from the tyres, but wind noise even on the motorway is very subdued. The car rides really well, especially on bad surfaces, whilst retaining more than adequate grip: if you want a sports car, don't buy an SUV. In terms of practicality, it's unbeatable in its class with great boot space and good quality (if not stunningly exciting) interior materials. I'm a little disappointed with the fuel economy, but I suppose 42 on average isn't bad. In general, it's a much more comfortable and relaxing car than I found its competitors to be.
