Nissan GT-R
The Nissan GT-R has re-written the rulebook on how a sports car should drive. Its twin-turbo 3.8-litre V6 engine is incredibly powerful, while the GT-R's superb twin-clutch gearbox and hi-tech four-wheel-drive system ensure that acceleration is extremely fast. The GT-R handles brilliantly, too, changing direction quickly thanks to its sharp steering. As well as offering amazing performance, the GT-R is surprisingly practical. The rear seats aren’t really suitable for passengers, but double as an extra storage area to supplement the boot. However, the GT-R's running costs are seriously steep.
- pros:
- Stunning straight-line performance
- Razor-sharp handling
- It looks great when you park up!
- cons:
- Uncomfortable at low speeds
- Price is up by £10k from previous model
- Nissan badge not as prestigious as Porsche
The Nissan GT-R is Japan's performance car flagship, and rivals the Porsche 911 Turbo and Ferrari 458 Italia for performance, yet it manages it at a relatively competitive price. Hi-tech electronics, a twin-turbocharged V6 engine and four-wheel drive mean the GT-R is fast and grips to the road like glue. It can accelerate from 0-62mph in only 3.1 seconds, while it can handle corners as if they're not even there. There is a price to pay in terms of comfort as the extremely stiff suspension crashes over bumps, but most buyers will be happy to sacrifice this comfort for the performance on offer.
