2022 Peugeot 208 update brings more tech and value

French supermini gets more equipment as standard for 2022 with no price hike

2022 Peugeot 208
  • New Active/Allure Premium+ trims
  • More equipment as standard
  • Available to order now from £19,100

After the brand scored a strong fourth-place finish in our Driver Power customer satisfaction survey, Peugeot seeks to further boost its most-popular model’s appeal with a trim and equipment update for 2022. The Peugeot 208 now gets enhanced styling and more tech as standard on its best-selling trim levels, which have been renamed ‘Active Premium+’ and ‘Allure Premium+’.

Despite the increased level of equipment, the Peugeot 208 will not see a price increase; base-level models still start from £19,100. Buyers can place their orders for the updated car now, with it offering even more value-for-money against rivals such as the Volkswagen Polo and Renault Clio.

The Active Premium+ model will act as the entry point into the Peugeot 208 range and replaces the outgoing Active Premium trim. In addition to the already-high level of standard equipment offered by the old car, the new ‘+’ model benefits from dual-zone climate control, automatic wipers and tinted windows as standard. Other standard kit includes 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a seven-inch touchscreen, 3.5-inch semi-digital dials and rear parking sensors.

Moving up the range, the refreshed Allure Premium+ starts from £21,590. As part of the 2022 update, this model now comes equipped with Peugeot’s trademark i-Cockpit fully-digital instrument cluster; drivers can configure this to display sat-nav directions, as well as other useful information such as fuel economy figures and the current media playback.

The other new addition to the Allure Premium+ comes in the form of the ‘Aluminium Pack’ which, as the name suggests, adds several aluminium styling flourishes on the pedals and door sills. As before, diamond-cut alloys, built-in sat-nav, a reversing camera and ‘claw-design’ LED tail lights also come as standard.

Finally, the Peugeot 208 is still available in sporty GT and GT Premium guises; however, unlike the former two models, these cars do not receive any extra gizmos as part of the update. That’s not to say standard equipment isn’t strong, though, as both cars get larger 17-inch alloy wheels, bi-colour paint, full-LED headlights, ambient lighting and blind-spot monitoring. The GT Premium also boasts luxurious leather/Alcantara suede upholstery, adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist for automatic models.
