Renault as a brand has seen improved reliability of late, and its longstanding excellent safety record has been maintained by the Megane Coupe, too. The car itself has seen a slight dip in overall customer satisfaction, but the brand has been performing better and better in our annual Driver Power survey.
Renault Megane Coupe reliability
The good news for anyone thinking about buying a Megane Coupe is that Renault's poor reputation for customer satisfaction is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. The brand climbed to eighth place out of 32 brands surveyed in our annual Driver Power survey in 2016.
The same survey placed the Renault Megane Hatchback in 62nd place, with 150 cars surveyed in 2016. Their car’s running costs, handling and ride quality are loved by owners and reliability gives no cause for concern, either. The Megane was let down by a lack of in-car technology, but all Coupe models now have sat nav as standard, so that criticism may no longer apply.
Safety
Safety has always been one of Renault's biggest selling points and the Megane hatchback was originally awarded the maximum five-star safety rating in Euro NCAP crash tests. Since then, however, it was downgraded to three stars, as Euro NCAP felt the car didn't warn you sufficiently if the rear-seat passengers weren't wearing their seatbelts. The testing body then upped the score to four stars in 2014 following safety revisions from Renault.
Standard safety equipment includes front, side and curtain airbags, electronic stability control and seat belt pre-tensioners. Renault has made safety a priority for many years now, so you can rest assured that the Megane Coupe will protect you if you're involved in an accident.
