Pros
  • Great engine
  • Fun handling
  • Good value
Cons
  • Bland interior
  • No manual gearbox
  • Awkward styling

The Skoda Fabia vRS is a hot hatchback version of the standard Skoda Fabia. It's a family car of relatively small dimensions powered by a 178bhp 1.4-litre TSI engine that combines a supercharger and a turbocharger to produce some real performance and acceleration at any speed. You can only get it with a double-clutch automatic DSG gearbox, but it's very effective and makes seamlessly quick and responsive gear changes. What's more, you can also use paddles mounted on the steering wheel if you'd like a bit more control. Skoda does also offer a more practical estate version of the vRS, which gives the Fabia range the edge over rivals like the Volkswagen Polo GTI, Ford Fiesta ST and Renaultsport Clio in terms of combining speed and practicality.
