Vauxhall Mokka SUV - Practicality & boot space

The Mokka is actually slightly shorter this time around, but its wheels are further apart, and the car is wider, so interior space hasn't been sacrificed. Its boot is a decent size, but the Mokka isn't an SUV you buy for its practicality or flexibility - rivals like the Renault Captur or Skoda Kamiq offer more space, and even a family hatch like a Golf is ultimately more practical.

There's plenty of space for adults in the front, as you'd expect, but thick windscreen pillars impact on visibility somewhat. Rear space is disappointing, though, a reminder that this is only a small crossover. Knee room and legroom are at a premium for adults, and if a front occupant is around six-foot, there won't be much space behind their seat to squeeze in.

Boot space

Measuring 350 litres, the Mokka's boot sits in the middle ground between most superminis and a family hatchback. There's plenty of space for shopping and a short trip away then, but it won't serve as a stand-in when you need to move furniture or lots of sports equipment. It's a shame Vauxhall hasn't added some more flexible features, because the sliding rear bench of the Renault Captur can be very handy.

The Captur also beats the Mokka for boot space with up to 404 litres of boot space, growing to 536 litres when its rear bench is slid forwards. Fold the Mokka's rear seats down and space increases to 1,105 litres, which doesn't quite match the 1,395 litres available in the Skoda Kamiq.
