Audi TT coupe - Practicality & boot space

The rear seats in the Audi TT are only for occasional use, but fold them flat and there’s a decent boot

You don't buy a coupe like the Audi TT for its boot space or rear seats, but potential customers will be pleased to hear that it's actually relatively practical for a sports car. The new model is almost exactly the same length (4.2m) as the old one. This is 20cm shorter than the BMW 2 Series coupe – which could make a difference when you’re looking for a place to park.

Audi TT interior space & storage

Even though the TT is no longer than before, the distance between the front and rear wheels (known as the wheelbase) has been increased to improve passenger space – especially in the front.

The rear seats are still small, however, and are really for occasional use only. Even small children will complain if you put them in there for longer journeys. Headroom is poor, even for adults of less than average height.

Those back seats aren’t the easiest to access, either. The front seats fold forward easily enough, but it’s a bit of a clamber to actually get in. At least there are ISOFIX child-seat mounts

There are plenty of clever storage spaces – a compartment between the front seats houses an additional cup-holder, and there’s a cubby in front of the gearstick that slides open and illuminates so you can see where the USB ports are. The glovebox isn't huge, though: it won't hold a large bottle of water.

Boot space

The TT’s boot is a good size, boasting 305 litres of space with the rear seats in place. That puts it on par with the Volkswagen Scirocco, which offers 292 litres of room for luggage.

Fold the rear seats flat and you're left with a surprising 712 litres of space, all of which is easy to access thanks to the practical hatchback boot. In fact, many owners will probably think of their TT as a two-seater with lots of boot space, rather than a cramped four-seater with room for a few squashy bags.
