Audi TT Roadster convertible - Interior & comfort
The Audi TT Roadster gets Audi's fabulous Virtual Cockpit and the interior is beautifully designed
A flat boot deck, rollover hoops and the removal of the rear seats give the Roadster a different look to the Coupe version of the Audi TT. Whether the roof is up or down, the car looks great inside and out. The TT won’t be around for much longer, though, and Audi has recently reduced the trim levels down to just Black Edition and Final Edition models.
Audi TT Roadster dashboard
When it was first released, we considered the TT’s interior as one of the best, most cutting-edge interiors available on any car. In 2023 it’s starting to look a little dated as the TT nears the end of production, but it’s still not bad overall. The 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit is a high-definition screen that replaces the traditional dashboard dials and comes as standard on all models. This puts all sat-nav, infotainment and driving data right in front of you in a variety of configurations, as well as freeing up space on the dashboard where a central touchscreen would normally be found.
It looks complicated at first, but using the rotary dial makes it simple to scroll through the menus. Alternatively, you can use buttons on the multifunction steering wheel, which we found safer and just as easy to use. You can toggle between two viewing modes with the push of a button, either maximising the size of the virtual dials or giving more space to the sat nav. It's certainly clever, but whether it actually helps to avoid you being distracted by all of that information in one place is less clear.
Another clever feature is how the controls for the air-conditioning are incorporated into the air vents on the dashboard. We also like the air vents in the seats, which can blow warm air down your neck when the roof is open.
Refinement is good with the roof up, although we did experience some wind whistle from around the wing mirrors, while more tyre noise is evident on the motorway than in the Coupe.
Equipment
The TT Roadster now comes in just two trim levels, called Black Edition and Final Edition. Black Edition models get Audi’s Virtual Cockpit, cruise control, DAB radio, Bluetooth phone connectivity, sports seats with electric lumbar support, automatic LED lights and rain-sensing windscreen wipers, 20-inch alloy wheels, gloss black exterior trim and a fixed rear spoiler.
Final Edition models add exclusive styling details, such as black Audi logo decals on the exterior, and unique 20-inch alloys. These models come in a choice of Tango Red, Glacier White or Chronos Grey metallic paint options. An upgraded sat-nav system and unique red stitching on the Alcantara and leather seating upholstery is also included.
Options
We’d recommend the S tronic gearbox and the open-top driving package, which consists of head-level seat heating that blows warm air down the back of your neck, an electric wind deflector and heated sport seats. It’s likely to prove very useful if you fancy driving with the top down on clear but chilly days.
