BMW X2 review - Interior & comfort
One area where the BMW X2 excels is on the inside, with plentiful use of high-quality materials and a polished tech offering
BMW has been on a roll with its interior quality in recent years, and the BMW X2 is no exception. We like the extensive use of high-quality metals, soft padded plastics, Alcantara and double stitching. Our only minor gripe with the interior would be that the M steering wheel fitted to the M35i car is a bit too thick, making it hard to wrap your fingers around - a common issue with BMW M products.
From launch the trim level lineup is fairly straightforward. M Sport is the only trim level for the entry-level car, with BMW forgoing the base trim offered in other markets for the UK. As well as the larger engine, the top-spec M35i also comes with a few extras on top as standard including larger 20-inch alloy wheels, a more sophisticated suspension setup, heated M seats, high-gloss exterior trim, a different grille and intakes that bring a subtly sportier look.
Is the BMW X2 infotainment and navigation system easy to use?
The BMW X2’s infotainment system is shared across both the entry-level and M35i model. This consists of a 10.25-inch digital driver's display and 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen with the latest BMW OS9 software.
While it works well, it’s not without issue – we disliked the amount of animated transitions between different screens and the heating and ventilation controls would be better operated with physical switchgear, rather than through a bar at the bottom of the touchscreen. Still, overall it’s one of the best systems on the market, with plenty of apps you can add to customise your experience, and good hardware that keeps things responsive and running smoothly.
Is the BMW X2 well equipped?
Yes – entry-level M Sport gets 19-inch alloys, Alcantara upholstery, LED headlights and tail lights, dual-zone climate control, a sport leather steering wheel, cruise control and park assist among other features.
What options should you choose for the BMW X2?
We think most buyers will be well catered for by what comes as standard on M Sport trim, but the Technology Pack might be a worthwhile addition for some buyers. At £1,680 extra, this adds electric folding exterior mirrors, high-beam assist, a wireless smartphone charging pad inside a storage box, acoustic glass to reduce road noise, plus Comfort Access. This system enables keyless entry and the ability to use your Apple iPhone as a digital key and share up to 5 ‘digital keys’ with other users if you want to lend someone your car.
