BMW X6 SUV - Interior & comfort
Quality materials and a powerful infotainment system dominate proceedings
We've already sampled BMW's latest SUV interior in the X5, and it's almost exactly the same in the X6. Despite its similarity to the X5, the driving position in the X6 does feel notably sportier, as you sit slightly lower in the car, more like you would in one of BMW’s saloons. The cabin is one of its biggest pluses, as the materials are top-notch and the seventh-generation iDrive infotainment system is both powerful and easy to use.
BMW X6 dashboard
For the driver, the experience is dominated by a crisp 12.3-inch screen behind the steering wheel, along with another display of the same size sitting above the air vents. Unlike Audi's latest technology, the infotainment can be controlled using a rotary dial by the gear selector, or you can use voice control and even gestures.
It's perhaps not quite as exciting to look at as the interiors of the Porsche Cayenne Coupe or Mercedes GLE Coupe, but the layout is intuitive and it isn't daunting to dive through the infotainment system to check out all the car's features.
Equipment
Standard features include climate control, ambient lighting, leather upholstery, wireless smartphone charging, WiFi, Apple Carplay, BMW’s latest iDrive 7.0 infotainment software, alloy wheels and adaptive suspension. Fast M performance models get larger 21-inch wheels, an M Sport steering wheel and an upgraded exhaust system and brakes.
Options
It might be well-equipped as standard, but there are still lots of optional extras that you can add to an X6. That includes convenience features like four-zone climate control and cup-holders that help keep your drinks hot or cold. Rear passengers will especially like the panoramic glass roof that's 83% larger than the outgoing model and mimics a starlit sky at night.
