Ford Galaxy review - Reliability & safety (2015-2023)
Ford has a mixed reliability reputation amongst owners, but the Ford Galaxy should prove very safe
Ford Galaxy reliability
Although the Galaxy didn't feature in our 2021 Driver Power customer poll, Ford's 25th place out of 29 brands is a worry, with lacklustre scores in areas such as build quality, interior and comfort. Owners reported that 21.4% of new Fords developed an issue within the first year.
Safety
The Galaxy was awarded the maximum five-star score for crash safety by Euro NCAP, along with an 87% rating for both adult and child occupation. As well as the usual host of airbags, tyre-pressure monitors and ISOFIX child-seat mounting points on the second row, the Galaxy has an intelligent speed limiter that can scan traffic signs and ensure you never break the speed limit.
Other safety systems include adaptive cruise control and an active lane-keeping assistance function. The automatic braking function can detect pedestrians and other vehicles, while adaptive LED headlights adjust themselves automatically to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers. It's a bit of a pain to know that even the automatic braking system is optional when you consider the Galaxy's price compared to its key rivals'.
Ford’s optional Driver Assistance Pack adds a number of additional safety features including adaptive cruise control, front and rear view cameras, a blind spot alert system and Active Park Assist.
