Costing £22,995 for the entry-level five-seat Nissan X-Trail two-wheel drive Visia, the new car represents a £2,600 saving on its predecessor. The two-wheel drive Acenta model, which cost £800 less than the outgoing version, is expected to be the most popular model.
The range starts with the basic Visia trim, which costs from £22,995. It gets17-inch alloy wheels and LED daytime running lights. Inside, there’s equipment such as a Bluetooth phone connection, MP3-compatible stereo, an electric parking brake, and a five-inch TFT colour display, which shows information such as sat-nav directions and average mpg.
The next-model-up Acenta costs from £24,795 and adds privacy glass, dual zone climate control, electric folding mirrors, a power sunroof, automatic lights and wipers, plus front and rear parking sensors.
Both Visia and Acenta models can be specced with a Smart Vision Pack, which costs £495 for the Visia and includes items such as automatic lights, High Beam Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Emergency Braking, Traffic Sign Recognition and front and rear parking sensors. The same pack costs £450 on the Acenta as it gets high-beam assist as standard.
Costing from £27,295, the n-tec spec gets all the kit you could possibly need, including 19-inch alloy wheels, keyless start and go, DAB radio, roof rails, power tailgate, Around View Monitor (which gives a 360-degree view around the car) and the firm’s NissanConnect system, with smartphone integration and built-in apps.
The top-of-range Tekna model adds to the above with luxury items such as powerful Bi-LED headlamps, heated leather seats, and an electric driver’s seat with lumbar support. Additional safety features include Blind Spot Warning and Driver Attention Alert, which monitors the driver and warns them when it detects they could fall asleep.
All models can be specced with seven seats for an additional cost of £700.
New Nissan X-Trail details & Engines
The new Nissan X-Trail will launch with a 1.6-litre dCi turbo diesel engine and be available with two or four-wheel drive. Nissan claims the car will be capable of emissions as low as 129g/km of CO2, which should work out at around 60mpg, making it one of the most efficient cars in its class. The engine will produce 128bhp - a more powerful 161bhp petrol engine will be made available for X-Trail buyers next year.
Four-wheel drive versions of the new Nissan X-Trail will feature an electronic ALL MODE 4x4i system, which automatically switches between four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive to save fuel or improve grip depending on the situation. Drivers can also manually change the mode in case the system gets it wrong. Nissan says the new X-Trail is better than before at off-roading, too.
The car can monitor the road surface for bumps and then a computer system changes the suspension to make the ride more comfortable. Plus, the car can add engine braking when slowing down to a halt to make stopping safer and easier.
