New Fiat Tipo Sport and Mirror trims launched among 2019 updates
Fiat Tipo range now includes six trim levels, starting from £14,905
Fiat has updated the Tipo range for 2019, adding two new trim levels. A Sport trim level slots in near the top of the range, bringing hot hatchback-esque styling, while a more sedate Mirror model replaces the old Tipo Easy Plus. The entire Tipo range is available to order now.
The 2019 Tipo range starts with the entry-level Easy model and then moves up through Street, Mirror, S-Design and Sport to range-topping Lounge. The new Sport trim is essentially a styling pack on top of the existing S-Design, adding exclusive exterior design features, including a new front bumper, front splitter, side skirts and a roof spoiler.
Upgrading to the Sport model also adds black door handles and a rear diffuser, and keeps all of the standard equipment found on the S-Design. It’s available with a choice of petrol engines and costs around £4,000 more than the entry-level Easy model, which starts at just under £15,000.
Both the S-Design and Sport models come with 18-inch bi-colour alloy wheels, a tweaked interior with black part-leather upholstery and tinted rear windows. These cars also get the upgraded Uconnect infotainment system, comprising of a seven-inch HD touchscreen with sat nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
S-Design and Sport models are currently only available in Passion Red but more colours will be offered soon - and customers will have the option of a contrasting black roof.
Neither of the sporty trims are available on the more practical Tipo estate, and you can’t combine them with a diesel engine either. Instead, buyers have the option of one of two 1.4-litre petrol engines: a 94bhp non-turbocharged version and a 118bhp turbocharged T-Jet version. We’d recommend the latter if you can afford it, as it’s almost as fuel-efficient but the 0-62mph time drops 2.5 seconds, to 9.9 seconds. Both engines come with a six-speed manual gearbox.
The Mirror trim level is also new for 2019 and replaces the previous Easy Plus trim level, adding a range of styling features and equipment. It comes with the seven-inch HD touchscreen with smartphone connectivity, as well as chrome detailing on the door handles, window-line, grille surround, mirror caps and fog light bezels. Diamond-cut 16-inch wheels are fitted, and the Mirror is available with the same two petrol engines, plus a 118bhp 1.6-litre Multijet diesel engine.
The Street trim adds a little extra style and equipment over the entry-level Easy trim, and only costs £500 more. The Street model is only available with the 94bhp petrol engine and isn’t offered on the estate version of the Tipo, which only comes in Easy, Mirror or Lounge form.
As with the petrol engines, the diesel comes with a six-speed manual and is easily the most efficient model in the range. It manages up to 53.3mpg in the hatchback, compared to 41.5mpg for the cheaper petrol engine and 39.2mpg for the turbocharged version. The petrol engines have been around for a few years now, and you’ll find that most equivalent engines in rivals are more economical.
The Tipo range starts from £14,905 for the hatchback, while high-spec Lounge models with the diesel engine are the most expensive at £20,805 before options. Mirror cars range from £16,155 to £20,110, S-Design costs between £17,905 and £19,225, while you’ll be spending another £1,300 extra for the Sport versions. The cost of the Tipo Estate ranges from £15,905 to £21,860.
