Best new cars coming in 2023
There are so many new cars coming in the next few years; we’ve narrowed them down to some of the best
Best family cars coming in 2023
Audi A4 Avant
The Audi A4 has begun to severely lag behind its rivals from BMW and Mercedes, however, it’s set to gain a much-needed replacement in 2023. This new car will share the same platform as the outgoing model, although it will get a much more contemporary interior with very few physical buttons – much like the larger Audi A6. As before, the A4 will be available in both saloon and estate bodystyles, with this new sixth-generation model likely being the last to utilise a petrol engine.
BMW 5 Series
In line with the rest of the BMW range, the 5 Series executive car is due for an update to get the German brand’s latest slew of technology and design tweaks. The upcoming eighth-generation 5 Series is likely to be available in petrol/diesel/hybrid form, as well as an all-electric BMW i5. On the inside, buyers can expect to see the brand’s latest iDrive OS8 ‘Curved Display’ infotainment setup, as well as other features first seen in the range-topping 7 Series such as the touch-sensitive BMW Interaction Bar trim piece on the dashboard.
Citroen e-C4 X
Sitting between the e-C4 and the C5 X in the French brand’s lineup, the new Citroen e-C4 X is a jacked-up electric saloon which promises funky styling and a comfortable ride. The e-C4 X was originally revealed in mid-2022, but the first deliveries are not due until Spring 2023. With an electric range of 224 miles and standard 100kW fast charging, the new car is now on sale from £31,995.
Peugeot 408
Is it a saloon, an SUV or a hatchback? Whatever it is, the new Peugeot 408 is coming in 2023 and offers a sleeker alternative to the more SUV-like Peugeot 3008. The 408 went on sale in late 2022 and is available with both petrol and plug-in hybrid powertrains, although first deliveries are not expected until spring 2023. No matter which version of the 408 you go for, all will come with the French brand’s futuristic i-Cockpit instrument cluster, which makes Peugeot models feel more like a concept car than something you can go out and buy today.
Skoda Superb
One of our favourite large family cars, the ultra-practical Skoda Superb is due for an update in the next year or so. The next-generation Superb will have a much sharper design, similar to the new Skoda Fabia, with a slimmer version of Skoda’s indented grille. Strip away the new bodywork and the new car will share many of its parts with the upcoming ninth-generation Volkswagen Passat. Buyers will be able to choose from hatchback and estate body styles as well as petrol, hybrid and even diesel powertrains – a fully-electric model isn’t expected for now.
Volkswagen ID. Aero
Imagine a fully-electric version of the ultra-sleek Volkswagen Arteon and you’ll be pretty close to what we expect from the upcoming Volkswagen ID. Aero. Previewed in several concept images, the new car will rival the likes of the Tesla Model 3 and will boast a range of over 300 miles. Like other models in Volkswagen ID. electric lineup, the ID. Aero will almost certainly feature a light and minimalist interior, however interior quality will need to take a step up for it to have a chance against the BMW i4.
