Peugeot 3008 MPV (2009-2016) - MPG, running costs & CO2
Hybrid offers impressive economy, but the Peugeot 3008 diesel is cheaper to buy
High running costs make the Peugeot 3008 petrol hard to recommend, while the hybrid model is pricey to buy. You’re better off with a basic diesel, which is cheap to buy and run.
Peugeot 3008 MPG, CO2 & running costs
The diesel-electric Peugeot 3008 is quite pricey to buy, but few crossovers come close to matching this car's running costs. It can return fuel economy of just over 80mpg and CO2 emissions of 90g/km, which means road tax is free. That makes it more affordable to run than cars such as the Skoda Yeti, Mazda CX-5 and Volkswagen Tiguan. In fact, not even the new Nissan Qashqai can match the Peugeot here.
Even if you don’t want to buy the expensive hybrid, the conventional diesels are economical, too. Our pick of the range, the basic 1.6-litre BlueHDi, can achieve fuel economy of 68.9mpg and CO2 emissions of 108g/km, so road tax costs £20 annually. The more powerful 2.0-litre BlueHDi diesel is just as efficient but has better performance.
The only petrol engine in the range isn't too inefficient. This 1.2-litre PureTech can do 57.6mpg and costs just £30 a year to tax. If you’re a low-mileage driver, it might suit you better than the more expensive 1.6-litre BlueHDi.
Insurance
Low insurance premiums also count in favour of the basic Peugeot 3008 diesel. Along with the most basic petrol, it sits in insurance group 15, while the group-26-rated hybrid will be the most expensive to cover. In comparison, the most expensive Nissan Qashqai to insure sits in group 21.
Warranty
With its patchy record for reliability, Peugeot would do well to reassure buyers by offering its cars with a long warranty, but you only get cover for three years or 60,000 miles (whichever comes first). In contrast, Kia gives a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty with its Sportage.
Servicing
Keeping your Peugeot 3008 well maintained should be affordable. The company offers fixed prices on parts and fitting, so you know in advance exactly how much you’ll pay before the work starts. Peugeot also offers fixed-price service plans, so you can spread out the cost of your car’s maintenance with regular instalments, starting from £20 a month.
