MPG, running costs & CO2 Rating

3.0 out of 5

Despite their different outputs, all three engines return reasonable fuel economy, ranging from 37.7mpg to almost 60mpg, which means the Eos should be relatively inexpensive to run.

If money is tight, models with the BlueMotion diesel engine are the most efficient. Road tax and insurance are both equally manageable, but as with most cars that wear the Volkswagen badge, parts and servicing are likely to be the biggest costs of ownership.

Volkswagen Eos MPG and CO2

There are three engines to choose from if you’re buying an Eos. The most efficient is the 2.0-litre TDI diesel with BlueMotion technology, which means the car can manage 58.9mpg and has CO2 emissions as low as 125g/km for road tax of £110 per year. Choosing Volkswagen’s automatic DSG gearbox with this engine sees fuel economy drop to 53.3mpg and CO2 emissions rise to 139g/km for an increase in road tax of £20, to a total £130 per year.

Going for the most basic petrol model gets you an Eos that’ll do 41.5mpg with CO2 emissions of 157g/km for road tax of £180 per year. The more powerful petrol engine makes the car quick but significantly less efficient, returning 39.8mpg with a manual gearbox or 37.7mpg with the automatic. CO2 emissions slip to 165g/km or 174g/km respectively, for annual tax bills of £180 and £205.

Volkswagen Eos insurance group

The cheapest Eos model to insure is the BlueMotion diesel, which falls into insurance group 23. The 158bhp petrol model costs slightly more thanks to its group 24 rating, while the most powerful model in the Eos range, the 207bhp petrol, is in group 30.

Volkswagen Eos servicing

Volkswagen offers a fixed-price servicing plan on the Eos that means you can pay £15.99 per month for two, three or four years to cover all servicing costs. Mileage is limited to 20,000, 30,000 and 40,000 miles respectively.

Volkswagen Eos warranty

Like all Volkswagens, the Eos comes with a three-year/60,000-mile warranty. Many manufacturers offer this level of aftersales cover, but it’s easily eclipsed by the seven-year/100,000-mile guarantee given by Kia and the five-year/unlimited-mileage given by Hyundai. You can extend the warranty on the Eos up to five years or 90,000 miles, but it costs extra.
