Skoda Octavia vRS Limited Edition review

Skoda has introduced a Limited Edition version of the Octavia vRS. Read our review of the bargain hot hatch

"Go for the diesel, it's even more of a stealth performer"

The Skoda Octavia vRS already has a proven track record for boasting premium performance for a budget outlay for those who are able to look beyond badge snobbery.

And the vRS has just got better, as Skoda has produced a Limited Edition of the Octavia vRS to shift the last of the current cars before the facelifted version is launched.

So what’s new? Well the Czech firm is building just 500 Limited Edition vRS’. Each car comes with its own production number and a vRS logo embroidered into the black leather seats.

The exterior has been given a splash of grey metallic paint too, accompanied by a new 18-inch alloy wheel design. Plus you also get a special badge on the rear to differentiate it from the standard model.

On the inside, you get dual zone climate control, cruise control and a touch screen six CD auto-changer as standard. Put simply, that’s £1,900-worth of kit for an extra £750, putting the Limited Edition’s starting price at £15,678 for the petrol version. A great way to shift a few units in the current climate…

The Octavia vRS is related to the Golf GTI and the SEAT Leon Cupra, and while it’s not quite as polished as the Golf to drive, the Octavia is certainly more practical than the VW and has a much nicer interior than the SEAT. The Skoda wins the price war with the Limited Edition version too.

Just as with the standard car, you can spec your vRS Limited with either the 200hp 2.0-litre petrol engine or the 170bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel. You can have it in hatch or estate variants too.

And while the petrol engine is great, the diesel unit suits the Octavia’s understated looks a bit more. In fact I reckon it’s a bit of a stealth car, capable of embarrassing much more expensive motors.

Add in that competitive price and the fact that the Octavia is mega-practical, and we reckon that this vRS is one of the best yet.
