It's not quite the size of a fully fledged Range Rover, but the Range Rover Sport is still a very big car. It's 4,879mm long and 2,073mm wide, which is similar in length and width to the Porsche Cayenne.

You sit high up, so visibility is good and the steering is light, but the Range Rover's size means you tend to rely on the various parking aids. Every model has at least parking sensors and you can add additional assistance by choosing a higher trim level or ticking boxes on the options sheet.

Range Rover Sport interior space & storage

Although the Sport isn't quite as spacious as the Range Rover, it’ll still accommodate a party of five adults, although a tall rear-seat passenger may struggle to fit behind a similarly proportioned front-seat occupant.

The SVR is really a 4.5-seater – there are four individual bucket seats but a fifth, rather unshapely seat, is squeezed between the rear two.

There's a seven-seat option, but Land Rover describes it as turning the Sport into a 5+2 seater. This is because the third-row seats, which rise up from the boot floor, are small and only really suitable for children. If you go for this £1,600 option, you don't get a spare wheel, and it’s not available for P400e, SDV8 or SVR models.

Boot space

Assuming you choose the standard five-seat car, there's 784 litres of boot space with the rear seats in place, which increases to 1,761 litres when you fold them flat. That’s more space than a Porsche Cayenne Coupe with its seats up (600 litres) but the Porsche claws back a little more space when its rear seats are folded down (1,540 litres). The same goes for the Audi Q8 (605 litres with the seats up and 1,755 litres with them down) and the BMW X6 (580 and 1,530 litres respectively). It’s worth noting that if you do opt for the seven-seat package you’ll only have 221 litres of boot space when all the seats are occupied.

Towing

Powerful 4x4s make excellent towing vehicles and the Range Rover Sport can haul a large trailer, horsebox or caravan behind it. Most models in the range have a 3,500kg towing capacity although in the case of the SVR and the P400e hybrid the figures are slightly lower; 3,000kg and 2,500kg respectively.
