New 2019 Audi A1 Citycarver: prices and specs

The more rugged-looking Audi A1 Citycarver is on sale now for £22,040

The new Audi A1 Citycarver is on sale now for £22,040, with first deliveries scheduled for November. The latest version of the new A1 has a raised ride height and SUV-like styling, and Audi says it’ll cope with rougher terrain than the standard model. The Citycarver is a rival to cars such as the Ford Fiesta Active and small SUVs such as the Volkswagen T-Cross.

The entry-level model of the Citycarver is badged 30 TFSI and features 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, sports seats and steering wheel, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8.8-inch infotainment system. Buyers have a choice of nine paint colours, all of which are offered with a black or grey contrasting roof.

Power is provided by a turbocharged 114bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which can get the car from 0-62mph in 9.9 seconds with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

A 35 TFSI version of the Citycarver is also available for £23,120. It uses a 148bhp 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine for a 0-62mph time of 8.2 seconds.

The Citycarver has an extra two inches of ground clearance over the standard A1, mostly due to longer suspension. The alloy wheels are also slightly larger at 17 inches as standard, and there’s styling to match the raised height. Its rugged look is achieved by new wheel arches, side sills and silver bumper inserts that are designed to look like a 4x4’s scuff plates. Audi says its grille is reminiscent of models in its ‘Q’ SUV range.

Elsewhere, the grille surround is painted matt black, there are two slots above the grille instead of the three on the standard A1, the bumpers are restyled and the tailgate features a new ‘Citycarver’ badge.

On the options list, you can pick from extras including Google Earth navigation with live traffic updates, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, dual-zone climate control, high-beam assist, and a Dynamic package featuring red brake calipers and Audi Drive Select driving modes.
