Suzuki Ignis SUV - Interior & comfort
An interesting two-tone dashboard design and reasonable amount of equipment make up for the cheaper plastics found inside the Suzuki Ignis
The Suzuki Ignis is a fairly inexpensive car, so it’s understandable there’s been some cost-cutting inside. Scratchy plastics aside, though, it’s nice to see the Ignis’ interior design echoes its funky exterior looks and Suzuki includes a fair amount of equipment as standard. There’s also room for four adults thanks to the upright seating position, which is by no means a given in a car of the Ignis’ size.

The Ignis’ dashboard is a two-tone affair, with the conventional black/grey top being brightened up by a white lower portion. Suzuki has added further colour flourishes, though, as the areas around the gearlever and the internal door handles can be had in either orange or ‘titanium’ (read dark silver). Which of these you get is determined by which of the Ignis’ 14 paint colours you select.
Technology
The Ignis’ touchscreen display is a bit of a disappointment, because compared to the best its screen lacks clarity and isn't very responsive. Still, it does offer Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a DAB radio as standard.
Equipment
The Ignis is available in three trim levels: SZ3, SZ-T and SZ5, and even the basic SZ3 model comes with air-conditioning, front electric windows, DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity.
Moving up to SZ-T trim costs around £1,500 and upgrades the rear seats to sliding, split-folding items with adjustable backrests. SZ-T trim also includes a reversing camera, and 16-inch alloy wheels, as well as chunky wheelarch extensions and roof rails.
Top-spec SZ5 trim includes sat nav, keyless entry, dual-zone climate control and LED headlights. It also adds autonomous emergency braking (called DCBS by Suzuki), which significantly improved the Ignis’ safety rating when it was assessed by Euro NCAP.
Options
The Ignis’ options list is fairly short. If you want metallic paint, this is around £450, or £650 if you go for two-tone paint. The DCBS safety system is available as an individual option, which we’d recommend if you choose the SZ3 or SZ-T trim.
