Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer safety

You shouldn’t have any worries about the Astra’s safety. The experts at Euro NCAP awarded the hatchback the full five stars when they tested it in 2015 and there’s no reason to believe the estate would perform any differently.

As standard, there’s plenty of safety kit, including a whole host of airbags, tyre-pressure monitoring, hill-start assistance, ISOFIX child-seat fixing points on the two outer rear seats as well as the mandatory stability control, traction control and anti-lock brakes.

The Driver Assistance Pack (standard on the SRi Nav trim and optional elsewhere in the range) adds forward collision alert (which warns you if you’re about to hit something and brakes if you don’t respond), traffic-sign recognition, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assistance, plus cruise control.

In addition, the Vauxhall Connect e-CALL system automatically alerts the emergency services if it detects you’ve crashed. operators can also help you keep your car properly maintained by booking a service with your local dealer.

Reliability

The pre-facelift version of the Vauxhall Astra was rated average for reliability in our 2020 Driver Power owner satisfaction survey of cars currently on sale in the UK. Of the owners who responded, 10.4% reported experiencing a problem with their car at least once, with the most common issue being electrical gremlins.
