BMW iX3 electric SUV gets an early facelift and M Sport trim

The facelifted BMW iX3 has been unveiled with a mild styling refresh and upgraded technology after less than a year on sale. The revisions to the brand’s pure-electric SUV keep it in line with the latest BMW X3.

Production of the new iX3 starts next month, with prices starting from £59,730. The iX3 sits in BMW’s pure-electric lineup alongside the new i4 saloon, the iX SUV and the i3 hatchback.

The facelifted iX3 features several small styling tweaks over the old car, including a new front bumper design, larger kidney grilles with restyled inserts, a lower front splitter and new blue trim pieces on the air intakes. Redesigned adaptive LED headlights also feature. 

Interior

Interior changes include a new larger 12.3-inch infotainment screen (up from 10.25-inches), which sits alongside a 12.3-inch digital dial cluster. Sports seats are now standard on all models and the starter button is now housed on the centre console. Elsewhere, the hexagonal air vents, gearlever and dashboard switchgear have all been redesigned. 

Trim levels and pricing

The iX3 was only available in Premier Edition trim but the refreshed model is available in two new versions: M Sport and M Sport Pro. The M Sport spec starts from £59,730 and is fitted with 19-inch alloy wheels, adaptive suspension and a panoramic sunroof.

Inside, standard equipment includes a heated steering wheel, electrically adjustable and heated front seats, an electrically operated tailgate and three-zone automatic climate control with pre-conditioning functionality, which allows the driver to remotely set the interior temperature via a smartphone app before starting a journey. 

Above this, the M Sport Pro is £62,730. It has larger 20-inch alloys with a two-tone paint finish and tinted headlights. Interior upgrades include acoustic glass, keyless go, a head-up display, gesture control and a premium Harman Kardon stereo system. BMW’s parking assistant plus system is also fitted as standard. 

Performance, range and charging 

Under the bonnet, the iX3’s rear-mounted 282bhp electric motor and 80kWh battery remained unchanged from the old car. Claimed performance is brisk, with 0-62mph taking 6.8 seconds.

Range is claimed to be 286 miles between charges, with a full top-up of the battery taking around 7.5 hours when connected to a 11kW home wallbox. The iX3 also supports rapid-charging at up to 150kW, with a compatible charger capable of adding an extra 62 miles of range in 10 minutes. A charge from 10-80% takes around 32 minutes.
