New Ford Tourneo Courier coming soon followed by electric E-Tourneo Courier MPV

The Ford E-Tourneo Courier is a five-seat electric MPV, arriving after a petrol Tourneo Courier that shares its DNA with the Ford Puma

Ford has announced the new Ford Tourneo Courier, with an all-electric version also in the pipeline, named the E-Tourneo Courier. The Ford Tourneo Courier has sat as the brand’s entry-level MPV since 2014, closely related to the commercial Transit Courier van. The latest Transit and Tourneo Courier will be based on the Ford Puma SUV’s underpinnings, unlike the larger Transit and Tourneo Connect, which is based on the Volkswagen Caddy.

The E-Tourneo Courier will mark the first time the brand’s smallest MPV has been offered with a fully-electric powertrain when it goes on sale in late 2024. Ford says its launch is an important step in its plan to go fully electric by 2035, when the ban on the sale of hybrid vehicles will come into force.

Buyers still in the market for a petrol-engined version will also be catered for, with an EcoBoost petrol Tourneo Courier available to order by the end of Summer 2023.

New Ford Tourneo Courier design

The model’s new design looks arguably more upright and van-like compared to the old Tourneo Courier, which was based on the Ford Fiesta. Ford says the latest Tourneo Courier is designed to be as spacious and practical as possible, with short overhangs for better manoeuvrability and predictable, straightforward lines to emphasise a more utilitarian ethos.

The E-Tourneo Courier gets a unique front end, with a full-width light bar and chrome diamond grille to help it stand out from the petrol model.

The all-electric E-Tourneo Courier is designed to seat five adults plus luggage comfortably. It gets a 60-40 split rear bench and 44 more boot space than the outgoing Ford Tourneo Courier, plus improved shoulder and headroom and clever storage solutions, such as an adjustable centre console, boot cubby and 44-litre frunk, thanks to the lack of an engine up front.

Just because there’s an emphasis on practicality and usability, doesn’t mean the Tourneo Courier has to be spartan on the tech front, however. The MPV gets a ‘digiboard’ instrument panel featuring a digital instrument cluster, plus a large 12-inch touchscreen on the dash with Ford’s latest SYNC 4 software. This gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, plus a wireless phone charging pad – over-the-air updates will keep the infotainment system up-to-date over time, without needing to visit a dealer.

Ford has announced the E-Tourneo Courier will be available as an Active model – this is a trim level offered by Ford on many of its models which adds a contrasting roof colour, unique seat fabrics, plus wheel arch mouldings and roof bars to add a touch of SUV ruggedness. Premium Titanium and stylish Trend trim levels will also be available.

New Ford Tourneo Courier powertrains

The Ford E-Tourneo Courier is powered by a 134bhp electric motor – Ford has yet to confirm the battery size for the electric MPV, although we’d expect it to be around 50kWh, delivering a conceivable range of over 200 miles. The brand has confirmed 100kW DC fast charging, so a 10-80% recharge in just under 35 minutes at a public charging station.

The EcoBoost petrol Tourneo Courier will get a 123bhp 1.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine with a six-speed manual transmission or seven-speed automatic gearbox. For added efficiency, it gets an ‘Active Grille Shutter’ which improves aerodynamics and auto start-stop as standard.

The petrol Tourneo Courier will go on sale first in summer 2023, with the all-electric E-Tourneo Courier following in late 2024. While pricing hasn’t been released, the larger Ford Tourneo Connect costs just over £29,000, so we’d expect the petrol-powered Tourneo Courier to cost less, likely starting around £25,000. The E-Tourneo Courier will cost more, going up against rival family EVs like the Citroen e-C4, so expect a price tag upwards of £32,000.
