Renault Megane E-Tech gets big price cuts across the range

• All Megane E-Tech models receive price cuts
• Entry point to the range now costs £34,495
• New prices available now in the UK

Renault has reduced the price of the Megane E-Tech by up to £3,500, a considerable price cut likely to entice more buyers to get behind the wheel of the electric family hatchback. 

The Renault Megane E-Tech is the smaller of the French marque’s two pure electric family cars, sitting below the forthcoming Scenic SUV. The most affordable Megane E-Tech, the Equilibre EV60, now starts from £34,495 – £2,500 less than before and undercutting both the entry-level Volkswagen ID.3 and Kia Niro EV by roughly £2,800.

Stepping up to the mid-tier Techno+ trim level will now cost £36,495, a drop of £3,000. The largest price cut is reserved for the highest trim level, Iconic. A price reduction of £3,500 means that this model now falls below the £40,000 mark, with a list price of £38,495.

We can only speculate as to why Megane prices have dropped, but we suspect Renault is creating some headroom in its pricing strategy for the soon-to-be-released Scenic SUV. Whilst Renault hasn’t confirmed UK pricing for the Scenic just yet, the larger EV will serve as the French marque’s flagship and will therefore command a premium over the Megane. With the entry-level Scenic likely to start from £40,000, it would make sense for the range-topping Megane E-Tech Iconic to be positioned just below this.

We’ve been impressed by the Megane’s looks and high-quality interior, backed up by an enjoyable driving experience and a quoted 280-mile range. We reckon it’s a worthwhile competitor for the Volkswagen ID.3 and Kia Niro EV and now, with a lower starting price, it’s more appealing than ever.
