Hyundai i30 owner reviews

"The Hyundai i30 is comfortable enough for long motorway drives and loaded with safety kit, making it easy to overlook its weaker points"

Decided to put this review on the site as there is no other for this version. Bought this car at 11 months old, ex-rental car. Now travelled 66,000 miles. Great car, apart from servicing on annual basis and replacement of consumables, (tyres etc) has not had a spanner on it! Cruises well on motorways at 70 -80 mph and returns 44 miles per gallon, Local runs 41 mpg. The automatic gearbox is a double clutch (DCi) and gear changes are very smooth with plenty of acceleration. (Feels as if the design was based on the VW group's DSG auto gearbox!) The cabin is a little too hard plastic but after 6 years use is wearing OK. Seats are comfortable, although we would have like a height adjustable passenger seat as well as the driving seat. My wife is now starting to find getting into & out of the car difficult as the car is quite low slung, which however does give it great road-holding. Have ran many cars over the years including a couple of remapped Golf's, but I find my i30 to be up there with the best. It is so quiet when running! Not like the Golf's with their strong noisy hum at speed! The only car that I have owned over 55 years and which I have found better for long journeys was a Volvo V70 D5 estate. Says it all!

I loved both my previous Hyundai's and intended to make this last one my last car before retiring, but its design faults and flaws are too bad to ignore. Within weeks, both the driver and passenger door panels were full of water after just a bit of rain. The reversing camera just has to get a spot of mud or water on it and you can't see a thing, the front camera has hissy fits for the same reason. The sat nav has no instructions so you can't tell what the various symbols on the map are supposed to mean, and there is nothing to tell you what, for instance, double beeps and wavy white lines crossed by a red line on your dash means. I'm not happy, and will be exchanging shortly for a nice Ford or Mazda.

Car is generally good. However it has needed 4 new alloys after 6 months due to corroding, all fixed under warranty. A rear parking sensor packed in at under a year old again fixed under warranty. There's a knocking or creaking noise from the steering which Hyundai is still trying to fix after 3 attempts and 7 days in the dealership. The paintwork is thin and scratches and marks easily. I also feel the black paint details are fading slightly and the gearbox could be better as it hesitates before going into reverse sometimes. Hopefully, after these issues are resolved the car will be problem free.

The worst car I have ever had, nowhere near the promised MPG, the cheapest cabin and upholstery materials they could find, the armrest is far too low down on the door so you can't reach the steering wheel - a lot more annoying than it might sound. Sticking door handles, 3 recalls and the worst paintwork I've ever seen. And dull - dreadfully dull. Dull to look at - dull to drive. Avoid.

Happy with car. No troubles. Higher urban consumption than specified but still acceptable. Interior is very fine and comfortable. Suspension feels hard on short bumps but too soft through corners. Sound insulation in rear could be better. So far our next car is also Hyundai.

Don't like this car. It's uncomfortable to drive. Also When you get out of the car to refuel, you can't lock the door, until you unscrew the petrol cap. When you finish filling your car with petrol, you have to unlock the car again to close the petrol cap. Lock the car again, to go and pay for your petrol.
