I really enjoy driving the car and is loaded with plenty of extras but I have had quite a few issues with the car that Hyundai seem to want to wash their hands of. A major problem is that the automatic boot opens on its own which is very frustrating and has been be back to the dealer several times but the issue has still not been resolved. I had things stolen out the back of the boot on one occasion and the attitude of Hyundai was a little disturbing as no one seem to care. As mine is an auto I'm getting use to the over revving when slowing down but have never experienced it in other auto cars I drive but they tell me that in fact it's only a semi-automatic engine and the over revving is normal? As said, the car looks and drives well but personally would not buy a Hyundai again purely after the way their aftercare has been and is still on going.

Purchased as a company car. I chose it because at the time it was different from the usual box shaped funereally designed estates and because I could have all the toys (auto box excepted). I occasionally achieve low 50's MPG but the average is closer to 48. It is a very comfortable car to drive and I have never yet stepped out with an aching back even after a 650 mile round trip to Cornwall. It is also a lot quieter than my colleague's 3 series BMW but that is where any comparison with a premium brand end. Space is great especially in the boot but the sloping rear roof line does cause issues for taller passengers and the middle seat is about as comfortable to sit on as a plank of wood with nails in. Tyres last really well (first set changed at 48,000 miles) Now for the bad bits. In the time I have owned it, I have had three sets of parking sensors (and the front ones are now playing up again), both tailgate gas struts, reversing camera, windscreen wiper linkage arm, one of the headlight washer jet covers fired off whilst traveling on the M6, much to the surprise of a fellow traveler in the middle lane. In addition the stop/start is random in the least and has currently decided not to operate ( middle of summer now so the 2C outside temperature cut off doesn't apply) Additionally the panoramic roof has developed a nice low frequency vibration between speeds of 45 and 55. Most of the options I do not use (park assist has never been tried, lane assist used once, panoramic sunroof is rarely opened and no sooner have the shutters slid back than the occupants are asking for them to be closed because the sun is too bright (has to be an English problem) Parking sensors (when they work and be assured they will break on a regular basis) and camera are very useful, the car is a bit of a barge and without them I suspect I would be bouncing of walls/other cars on a regular basis. Sat Nav is rubbish compared to my Tom Tom and will send you via the most incomprehensible route (it refuses to use the M6 toll and insists it is faster to go via the Wednesbury car park section of the M6) The layout of a lot of the function switches, even those on the steering wheel is poor and often requires a quick look down/to the side should you wish to use them, obviously not a good idea whilst barreling along the motorway or for that matter any other road. There is a whopping amount of turbo lag so quick pull off at a roundabout or junction can be an interesting experience. Steering feedback is not exactly intuitive and some times feels like its having a senior moment and trying to remember where it should point the tyres. Would I have another one, no not really but it was an interesting left field excursion and certainly a lot less boring than the usual Germanic offerings (although no where near as well screwed together).

I absolutely love my new Hyundai, it is so comfortable and quiet to drive. I love that it has automatic Driver seat recognition, so that I can just press a button and will revert to my stored settings, same for my partner. It is a dream to drive, very responsive on the steering which gets some getting used to, reversing Camera is a godsend on this car and makes parking a breeze. I have not run it in enough yet to know the true MPG, can honestly say, is by far the best car I ever had the pleasure of owning, my only slight gripe is the computer display is a little on the small size for my liking and could have been made much bigger by cutting down on the speedometer and Rev Counter which is much bigger than it needs to be. Apart from that amazing car, with so much space and so many features in the business models up. Highly recommend

I have owned my Hyundai i40 tourer for just over a year now and am very pleased with it. The quality of the interior trim is very good with a well built feel to it. Some reviews complain about the sat nav but I have found it to be excellent. Never had a problem with it avoiding the M6 tolls, always chooses them when travelling from Bristol to Derby. The engine does tend to rattle a bit when started cold, assume this is down to time for oil to fully get to the hydraulic lifters. At low revs, the power is a bit lacking and has caught me out a bit at roundabouts but as soon as the revs start to climb the power kicks in. Just need to make sure you keep the revs up a bit. Only thing that could really be improved is the voice control of the radio and sat nav etc. Not as intuitive as you would want and could be a bit slicker. Other than that, this is a great car and I am very pleased with it.

This was bought via my work and a lease company. It was the best of the bunch to choose from aesthetically and for its low running costs and emissions. I have loved the feel and the look of the car and for the massive boot/storage facilities for carrying the stock I need to do my job. This car was very economical to take to France on a road trip/camping holiday and having dropped the back seats were able to take oodles of camping gear for a family of 6 - we took two cars!! luggage in mine and children etc in partners car. I love the car parking sensor technology and rear camera - having said that I have had to have both replaced in the first year under warranty. The door motor on drivers side went wrong leaving me unable to get into car for over an hour as we couldn't get the special cover off the manual key lock - it was difficult to remove without scratching paintwork etc. I have also had to have the front wheel offside repaired due to a wheel bearing issue last week! On a new car i wouldn't have expected this type of damage. The recovery guy said it was dangerous to drive. All in all I have been very happy with this car but due to the issues listed - if these hadn't have been covered under warranty I wouldn't be having another one. Subsequently my company are pulling them off the list of cars we can chose from due to all the time off the road needed for the repairs etc. The low tax and fuel costs make this a great car if you have large family or carry a lot of stuff regularly. I would buy one again but only with the 5 year warranty in place.

This is without doubt a nice looking estate but as others will confirm, the clutch is a major problem. Despite new clutch and dual mass flywheel, the bite point is so low that finding gears is a pain.

Great car to drive. Has all the kit I will ever need and the panoramic sunroof is fantastic in summer. No reliability problems as of yet . Average of 46 mpg isn't too bad considering it has the larger 18" alloys plus it's the automatic version. Feels safe and secure on the road although rear visibility could be a tad better. The rear sensors and camera are a necessity for such a large car.

Excellent all round haven't done a long run as yet - 64 mpg on my longest run of about 70miles! Comfortable, generous spec, stylish, roomy, decent handling - I'm not a rally driver, good overall ride quality, refined, responsive enough, no reliability issues, very economical for a large car. A very good family all rounder with enough elan to make me smile! Highly reccommended.

Rented thus car from Enterprise for two months while my car in for repairs. Woefully underpowered for an estate car, handling nothing special. Engine is extremely noisy. Fuel consumption dire for a 2014 car.

Mechanically perfect. But had issues with interior rattles due to the car coming from the Hyundai's training centre. The dealer was excellent in rectifying these issues.

I fell in love with the tourer’s attractive design both in and out, and the relatively low fuel costs for a large family estate car. I bought at 40,600 miles from a ‘reputable used car dealer’ on PCP and drive it like a vintage Roller – so very carefully. The warranty is long and the dealer was great on the two occasions it has been in – for parking sensors and parking camera replacement. However, six months after the warranty expired and at 76,000 miles, the hydraulic clutch decided it was a good idea to break and cost me £1700. Apparently it’s a common fault with the hydraulic regulator valve which has be ‘updated’ on later i40 models but Hyundai had inspected the valve after the break down but said it would not have caused the clutch to explode. So after the whole clutch had been replaced, there’s still no answer to the cause of the breakdown. Secondly, you have to remove the bumper cover and headlight cases at a dealer cost of £78 just to replace two £8.99 bulbs. I am just waiting for my PCP contract to end but in fear that something else is going to go wrong with it. Another parking sensor has failed now and also, a switch which sends the driver’s seat to recline doesn’t work but the other controls are. However, the workshops just want to replace the whole control unit for £270 for the sake of one switch! My word of advice - don’t own a Hyundai out of warranty it will cost you a fortune.

Just spent most of the day in my i40, covered 500 miles and still have half a tank of fuel left. Dashboard indicator telling me an average of 70 mpg. Based on fuel receipts it is probably true and the actual cost every time I fill up is about 9 pence/mile at today's diesel prices. Comfortable and refined in most respects, my only disappointment is the amount of road noise. Anything above 40mph and most road surfaces are quite loud. I'm hoping when the current Hankook tyres are worn out, some quieter ones will improve it.

Hi have the 115 hp diesel , very pleased with this car . Great to drive on long journey s , have been to south of France twice each time with 2 adults , luggage plus on one occasion an entire shower suite , started with a full tank and arrived after 960 k mostly motor way with 230 k still in the tank both times . Howe very one major problem exists and hyundai are to date unable after 3 attempts to rectify it pulls sharply to the left . At 50mph it will hit the keep after 50 meters . It seems like it's a guessing game and it wears you down , going in next week to try again , nice looking car , frugal, comfortable but it pulls to the left

I bought this car in oct 2015 and I was thrilled to have a good looking, good driving and good all round car. That was until I struck a piece of concrete in the road at about 50 miles an hour. At first i thought the car was ok un til i looked at the wheel and realised that the wheel had bent over by an inch from top to bottom,I took the car to my local Hyundai dealer in Norwich who told I would need certain bits that they didnt have in stock and they would order them for me. That was the 17th of december 2015 and today the 19 th of january 2016 the parts have STILL NOT arrived. I am a taxi driber in Norwich U.K. and all over christmas I have had to rent a car from my taxi company at a cost and that is ongoing.I strongly advise anyone who is thinking of buying the i40 to check how long they would have to wait for spares before buying this car because the wait for spares for this car could be forever.I have to say my Hyundai dealer have been sympathetic but unfortunately for me that sympathy is not doing me much good.
