Mazda CX-7
The Mazda CX-7 is a quirky looking rival to the Audi Q5. The crossover's looks are inspired by the RX-8 sports car, but despite this sporty influence the CX-7 looks less imposing than rival SUVs. One engine is available, a powerful 2.2-litre diesel, with a slick manual gearbox and four-wheel drive. There's only one specification too, called Sport Tech, which comes loaded with luxuries like electric seats, 19-inch alloy wheels and a camera to help with reversing. The CX-7 is good to drive for a tall car, offering sharp steering and a comfortable ride. The interior is spacious, and there's a decent-sized boot.
- pros:
- Responsive drive
- Extensive kit list
- Eye-catching styling
- cons:
- Boot not as big as rivals
- Cabin plastics lack quality feel
- Only one model offered
The Mazda CX-7 is the firm's only SUV, but it still delivers the kind of sporty drive that Mazda is famous for. There's a single model available that comes with lots of equipment as standard, and comes with a powerful 2.2-litre diesel engine. Mazda pitches the CX-7 as a lifestyle SUV for people who don't need maximum space and still want a sharp looking 4x4 that's also fun to drive. As a result it's not as spacious as some rivals, but it does undercut rivals such as the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 on price.
