MINI Coupe
The Coupe is the latest addition to MINI's line-up. Thanks to the low line of the roof, there's only room for two seats inside, and because the Coupe is the sporting flagship of the range, it's only offered in Cooper, Cooper S and John Cooper Works versions. Power comes from a range of efficient engines, so fuel consumption and emissions will be competitive, despite the performance on offer. However, as the Coupe is the flagship of the MINI hatchback range, it won't come cheap.
- pros:
- Sharp styling, distinctive bodywork
- Powerful turbocharged petrol engine, efficient diesel
- Surprisingly spacious and practical for two
- cons:
- Suspension is very firm, particularly in top specification versions
- Performance not significantly improved over standard hatchback
- Comparatively expensive
The MINI Coupe is the sportiest model in the line-up. It has two seats, lowered suspension and a reshaped roof that is lower than the standard hatchback's. As it's a performance model, the Coupe is only available in high-end Cooper, Cooper S and JCW versions. Entry level Cooper models feature a 1.6-litre petrol engine, while Cooper SD versions get a 2.0-litre diesel. Flagship JCW models have 208bhp, and deliver a blistering 0-62mph sprint time of 6.4 seconds.
