Nissan has announced that the Juke Nismo – a high-performance version of its small crossover – will cost from £19,995 when order books open in January.

The Nissan Juke Nismo is first in a range of powerful Nismo-branded models that are due to be launched over the next few years. It uses a 197bhp 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, accelerates from 0-62mph in just 7.8 seconds and has a top speed of 134mph. Fuel economy is 40.9mpg with CO2 emissions of 159g/km.

It's not just the engine that's been upgraded either; sports suspension with 10 per cent stiffer springs should make it sportier to drive, while the steering ratio has been altered to sharpen up the car's reactions. As well as a front-wheel-drive model with a six-speed manual gearbox, a four-wheel-drive model with an automatic gearbox will also be offered.

Cosmetically, the Juke Nismo gets a subtle bodykit, red door mirrors and matching red pinstripe. There's also Nismo badges inside and out, suede-trimmed sports seats and a black-and-red colour scheme for the whole interior. Three paint colours are offered – Storm White, Pearl Black and Blade Silver.
