The old Skoda Fabia Estate was quite an efficient car and Skoda says the current generation is 17% better still. Every version is economical and painless to run, although we’re a little disappointed that Skoda isn’t offering a vRS performance model of the Fabia this time around. For its mid-2018 facelift, Skoda has also decided to discontinue diesels in the Fabia Estate, which may disappoint some high-mileage drivers.
Skoda Fabia Estate MPG & CO2
The entry-level 74bhp 1.0-litre MPI petrol engine is the same three-cylinder motor used in the Skoda Citigo city car, so it has to work quite hard to haul the bigger Fabia Estate around and economy suffers as a result. You should see up to 49.6mpg in everyday driving, with CO2 emissions of 111g/km, resulting in a 26% Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) band for company-car drivers.
The 94bhp 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine doesn’t have to work so hard and fares better at the pumps, returning 51.4mpg and emitting 105g/km. The more powerful 108bhp version is available with a choice of manual or a DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission that returns 47.9mpg, and while the manual can manage 50.4mpg. CO2 emissions of 107-110g/km place it in the 25-26% BiK bands.
Insurance group
The Skoda Fabia Estate is one of the cheapest estate models to cover, starting in group two in entry-level 1.0-litre MPI petrol S trim - lower than most city cars. This increases to group eight for the 94bhp engine and 11 for the 109bhp model, one group below the range-topping Monte Carlo with the same engine.
Warranty
The warranty provided is the same as with any other Skoda. The Skoda Fabia Estate is covered for unlimited miles for the first two years of ownership, and you get a third year of cover as long as you haven’t exceeded 60,000 miles. The warranty can be extended to four years/80,000 miles for £180 or five years/100,000 miles for around £300.
Servicing
The Fabia Estate can be serviced either by following a fixed-interval regime with one yearly service every 10,000 miles or, depending on the way the car is driven, the intervals can be stretched based on sensors that detect engine wear. Skoda also offers fixed-cost maintenance plans to help you budget for servicing, with the first two services covered for an up-front payment of around £280.
