The Vauxhall Zafira Tourer is generally efficient for its class, but several rivals offer greater economy. For instance, the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso and Renault Grand Scenic can return 70-74mpg, which is some way ahead of the Zafira Tourer's most efficient engine.
Vauxhall Zafira Tourer MPG & CO2
If low fuel bills are your priority, or you’re a company-car driver that wants to get the most out of your Benefit-in-Kind (BiK), there’s the 138bhp 1.6-litre CDTi diesel, which returns 62.8mpg and emits just 119g/km of CO2, for a 28% BiK rating.
The 168bhp 2.0-litre CDTi diesel still manages a decent 57.7mpg, and is the best option if you regularly travel with a full load or on the motorway – although CO2 emissions increase to 129g/km of CO2, taking BiK to 30%.
Low-mileage drivers will be better off with the petrol engine. The 138bhp turbocharged 1.4-litre has a decent amount of power and achieves a reasonable 44.1mpg, but emits 156g/km of CO2, which means a 32% BiK rate.
Do note that the automatic gearbox available with the 2.0-litre diesel and 1.4-litre petrol engines reduces fuel economy and increases CO2 emissions. Every Vauxhall Zafira Tourer is liable for road tax of £140 a year.
Insurance group
Most Vauxhall Zafira Tourer models lie somewhere between insurance groups 15 and 22 out of 50, so cover should be on the low side of average.
Warranty
Vauxhall’s three-year/60,000-mile warranty is standard for the industry and by no means exceptional; for comparison, the seven-seater Renault Grand Scenic has a four-year/100,000-mile guarantee.
Servicing
The Vauxhall Zafira Tourer requires servicing every 20,000 miles (unless the car indicates otherwise), and service plans are available for around £15 a month to help make budgeting for these costs easier.
