Today’s hot car deal: super-efficient Kia Niro EV for £254 per month

Our hot deal for 21 December is no ordinary electric car; the Kia Niro is one of the most efficient EVs on the market

Kia Niro EV

We’ve been huge fans of the Kia Niro for years. The original model was one of the most efficient cars in its class, and its successor impressed us so much we awarded it our coveted Car of the Year prize for 2023.

So if you’re after an easy-to-drive and affordable electric car that’ll cost mere pennies to run, this Kia Niro lease deal could be just the ticket. Beware though, the £3k deposit is a rather hefty upfront fee…

What’s so good about this Kia Niro EV deal?

Electric cars, by and large, cost more to buy (but less to run) than their petrol-powered equivalents. If you’re leasing on a longer three or four-year deal, you can often offset the initial purchase price by charging at home on an affordable electricity tariff.

However, if you’re looking at a shorter lease, EVs can be harder to justify. Lifetime price and running cost parity is harder to achieve if you’re looking to chop your car in after a year or two.

But this Kia Niro EV deal from LeaseLoco.com might work in your favour. Yes, there’s a fairly hefty £3,048 initial rental, but after that you’ll pay just £254.05 per month over two years. A like-for-like Niro Hybrid is currently listed on the same site for £308 per month with an even higher initial payment, but otherwise identical terms.

Signing up to an ‘Economy 7’ electricity tariff means you’ll spend less than £800 per year on charging (based on 5,000 miles per year) – compared with almost £1,000 for an equivalent petrol car returning around 35mpg.

Better still, LeaseLoco has cars in stock and ready to go. The numbers above are based on the entry-level 2 trim, but you can upgrade to 3 for an extra £36 per month, or even the flashy 4 for sub-£350 per month.

What’s so good about the Kia Niro?

We rate the Niro very highly indeed here at Carbuyer. So much so, we awarded it our overall Car of the Year in the 2023 Carbuyer New Car Awards. Its blend of technology, efficiency, comfort and practicality make it a worthy family car – and one that’ll cost very little to run if you charge on an intelligent tariff.

If you’re coming from a petrol or diesel car, you’ll be blown away by how smooth and quiet the Niro feels – not to mention its nippy acceleration away from the lights. But despite this, it feels familiar and easy to drive; you just stick it in drive and off you go.

There’s room for the family in the back seats, and as EVs go, there’s a decent boot big enough for a week away. And yet its compact dimensions mean it’s perfectly suited to town driving; easy to park, and a doddle to manoeuvre.

Yet with a 285-mile range and rapid charging, you needn’t stick to the city streets. The Niro feels perfectly at home on longer journeys or rural roads – it really is a do-it-all small SUV capable of slipping into your daily routine without fuss.

The 2 trim as advertised on LeaseLoco comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, twin screens for the infotainment – with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, DAB radio and sat-nav. There’s also a reversing camera, and dual-zone climate control. Few would wish for more, but you can upgrade to the 3 or 4 trims for an additional cost.

About this lease deal…

About the car…

  • Monthly payments: 23 x £254.05
  • Initial payment: £3,048.60
  • Fees: £199
  • Mileage limit: 5,000 miles
  • List price: £37,325

Anything else I need to know about this deal?

This is a lease deal, often referred to as Personal Contract Hire (PCH), so there’s no option to buy the car at the end of the contract. You are effectively renting the car for the two-year term, but the deal is very flexible so you can adjust the term length, mileage limit and initial payment size to suit. Once the deal is over, you just hand the keys back and start looking for your next car.

Our hot deals are carefully selected by our car buying experts and they are all subject to change. Always read the full terms and conditions and make sure the car and the deal suits your needs before proceeding.
