  • Stylish, distinctive design
  • Economical and powerful engines
  • Comfortable on the road
  • Interior storage could be better
  • Better on-road than off-road
  • Four-wheel drive cars not as fun to drive

The Mazda CX-5 is a crossover SUV offering the practicality of a 4x4, with the driving ease and fun of a hatchback. It's available with front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive to provide either lower running costs or extra grip in adverse weather. The 2.2-litre diesel engine with either 148bhp or 172bhp is the biggest-seller, but a 2.0-litre petrol is also available. Even the basic SE-L trim level is well-equipped enough to satisfy most requirements.
