Similar in size to the Land Rover Freelander and Volkswagen Tiguan the Mazda CX-5 is Mazda's entry into the highly competitive crossover or compact SUV market. The CX-5 is great to drive and is available in either two or four wheel drive. Petrol and diesel engines are offered with both manual and automatic gearboxes.
- Stylish, distinctive design
- Economical and powerful engines
- Comfortable on the road
- Interior storage could be better
- Better on-road than off-road
- Four-wheel drive cars not as fun to drive
The Mazda CX-5 is a crossover SUV offering the practicality of a 4x4, with the driving ease and fun of a hatchback. It's available with front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive to provide either lower running costs or extra grip in adverse weather. The 2.2-litre diesel engine with either 148bhp or 172bhp is the biggest-seller, but a 2.0-litre petrol is also available. Even the basic SE-L trim level is well-equipped enough to satisfy most requirements.
