Land Rover is branching out into two-wheel-drive cars with entry-level versions of the Freelander and Range Rover Evoque, but cars like the Discovery remain committed to delivering the ultimate in off-road performance. What's more, the Land Rover has a luxurious cabin that's a great place to sit for long periods of time. As a result, it's also a brilliant motorway car, and in our opionion the best luxury 4x4 money can buy in 2011. Expect running costs to be on the high side, despite the excellent 3.0-litre diesel engine.
