The latest Kia Sportage is CarBuyer's first ever Car of the Year. Our judges were unanimous in agreement that this is 2011's top performing car, as well as Best 4x4. Aimed at the Nissan Qashqai, but offers much more space for the money. The exterior is very stylish and well proportioned, while the interior offers space for five and a huge boot. The Kia Sportage sets new standards for Kia, and offers the best quality feel in the range. The Kia Sportage comes. loaded with standard kit and engines ranging between 1.6 and 2.0-litre diesel engines.

The Kia Sportage is Kia's rival for the Nissan Qashqai in the SUV/hatchback crossover market. Originally sold only as a 2.0-litre turbodiesel with four-wheel drive, the Sportage has since been available with smaller diesel and petrol engines, along with front-wheel drive. The entire range has lots of equipment, stylish looks and the promise of inexpensive ownership, with Kia's seven-year warranty proving very popular. For its price, the stylish, relatively cheap Sportage is one of the best cars money can buy - that's why it was named Carbuyer's first ever Car of the Year in 2011, and Best 4x4 in 2012.
